    Phone can be frustrating.

Need to have better (or any even) instructions. Even the bare minimum help sheet. For example which lens is best for viewing specific things. When to and when not to use the Barlow lens. Also taking pictures with the phone can be difficult because it can be hard to line up the phone to see the object. Gets frustrating. When you actually get a pic they are great but sometimes the frustration of lining it up is not worth it.

    Excellent kids telescope

Hi,We would like to share a review for the Gskyer telescope. It’s really easy to assemble. Once ready, we were able to watch the moon up close, was really a very informative experience for my kids. Would recommend this telescope for beginners and to develop the interest in exploring space for young kids.

    Works Great!

Wifey was trying to get good pictures of the moon off her phone… and it wasn’t quite working to the quality she wanted. So I found this telescope and read through the reviews and it did not disappoint!! We set it up, locked her phone in the holder, and got some pretty cool pictures of the moon and Saturn as well. The telescope comes with a Bluetooth remote so once it’s focused on the object you want a picture of you click the remote and boom perfectly still shot!! She’s happy, I’m happy, and now she can get the pictures she wanted. We have literally spent hours with this thing since the purchase as well so money well spent!

    amazing product

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the night sky like never before with the Gskyer Telescope, and I must say that this telescope has truly exceeded my expectations. From its impressive build quality to the clarity it offers during celestial observations, the Gskyer Telescope has proven to be an outstanding instrument for amateur astronomers and stargazing enthusiasts alike. One of the standout features of the Gskyer Telescope is its exceptional optics. The fully coated glass optics provide sharp and vibrant images of the moon, planets, and deep-sky objects. I was amazed by the level of detail I could observe on the lunar surface, with craters and ridges coming into focus in stunning clarity. Viewing Jupiter and its Galilean moons was a breathtaking experience, with each moon distinctly visible.Setting up the telescope was a breeze, thanks to the clear and concise instructions provided. The sturdy aluminum tripod provides a stable foundation, and the adjustable height allows for comfortable viewing at various angles. The included accessories, such as the smartphone adapter and multiple eyepieces, add to the versatility of the telescope, making it suitable for both beginners and more experienced observers.I was particularly impressed by the Gskyer Telescope’s ability to capture faint deep-sky objects. With its impressive light-gathering capabilities, I was able to observe distant galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters with remarkable detail. The equatorial mount allowed for smooth tracking of celestial objects, even during longer observation sessions. The Gskyer customer support team deserves a special mention for their responsiveness and willingness to assist with any queries. Their dedication to ensuring a positive user experience reflects the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction. In conclusion, the Gskyer Telescope has provided me with countless hours of celestial exploration and discovery. Its exceptional optics, sturdy construction, and user-friendly design make it a fantastic choice for anyone eager to explore the wonders of the night sky. Whether you’re a beginner looking to embark on your stargazing journey or an experienced astronomer seeking a reliable and versatile instrument, the Gskyer Telescope is a stellar choice that will undoubtedly enhance your astronomical pursuits.

I like that the telescope was very easy to put together and they are so many videos on the web that help with the use of the telescope. Gskyer did an awesome job with this beginner telescope, they made it so easy for a newbie to use it that it’s fun. The grandkids and I enjoy using it and looking at the stars.

For the money, this is a great place to start exploring the sky around us.

I bought this as a gift for my grandkids and the intent was to allow them to witness the “Christmas Star”, the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn on December 21. The plan was to capture the event nightly from December 19 through December 22.Receiving and unboxing the telescope was pretty straightforward. The instructions were somewhat trying, but given that there were only a few “moving parts” it was easy enough to figure out. The only problem we encountered was that the adapter for allowing the telescope to connect to a smartphone was missing half of the adapter and we could not connect a phone to the telescope. No idea why the part was missing. We unboxed the telescope on our dining room table and when we discovered the part was missing we had no less than 5 adults searching for it, to no avail. We didn’t lose the part, we just never had it. That was disappointing when you consider that being able to attach a phone was one of the primary reasons for selecting Gysker and we lost our opportunity for the grandkids to record their witness of the grand event.Setting that bit aside, the telescope worked wonderfully. It was easy to set up, with all of the [available] parts fitting nicely into the supplied carrying case. We transported the telescope to our observation area and the telescope set up easily. The ‘spotter’ scope allowed us to get on target quickly and the aperture and zoom features allowed for a spectacular view, including many of the moons surrounding the planets. We even used the spotting scope and a smartphone app to align the telescope with other stars for equally breathtaking views and we spent about 2.5 hours searching out various objects in the night sky each time we went out. (From dark until bedtime). The grandkids (10, 9 and 7) really took to the telescope, learning how to use the various parts and functions rather quickly, even to the point that they could select and observe a star on their own. The tripod was solid and held a stable image and everything, sans phone adapter, worked very well.If I was rating just the telescope on cost to function-ability, I would rate the Gysker telescope 10 stars. It is a very good telescope for the money and since we wanted the kids to get excited about the night sky, this was a great purchase. The ONLY disappointment was because I specifically chose this telescope because we could attach a smartphone to record an event that only happens every 800 years and then was unable to do exactly that, well, it was a real letdown.Even at that, I would tell anyone wanting to start amateur exploration of the sky that this is still a great telescope for the money.

I bought this for my seven years old son, he was still amazed at the pictures we can capture from the sky. It’s a little hard to use at the beginning, but when you get used to it, I’ll start blowing your mind. I also like the quality of it, even if you get bored after it a little while just keeping it in the living room. I will add a nice decoration to your house.

I have been using this product for about a month now and I cannot be more satisfied with it. Especially the moon view we got with this telescope made me as well as my 3 year old kid happy. We have also been able to take couple of pictures with the cellphone mount which works ok. It is slightly difficult to get the angles right with the lenses but after couple of try we got the hang of it. The tripod stand is very sturdy for something this heavy. And construction feels nicely build and all the lenses makes viewing pretty mesmerizing. I would definitely recommend it for someone looking for entry level scope with great details.

Easy to use, good value for the money

We purchased this telescope for a trip out to Joshua Tree which is in the middle of the California desert. The night sky is so incredibly clear and we thought this would be a fun purchase for some amateur star gazing. It did not disappoint. It is easily portable and simple to set up. We did not get a chance to use the phone attachment yet, but will next time. It is definitely not for a more experienced gazer, but for a beginner it was a great value for the price. We have another trip planned to the desert next month and can’t wait to use it again.

Great value and great beginner telescope

I bought this mostly for viewing the moon and using as a travel telescope. It works really well if you have the patience to use it. Realistically, you can’t see much more than the moon at night. You can see Saturn and its rings but not super well and you’ll need to be quite patient. Fairly easy to set up and use and super portable. I would recommend this to anyone willing to spend time outside looking at the sky.

I purchased this telescope so I can see the rare super blue moon on August 30th-31st 2023. I have never used, or purchased a telescope before, and I wanted to get some pictures of the moon on my iphone. I wasn’t disappointed! It came on time (I ordered it like 2 days before the full moon), was easy to assemble, and I took tons of shots of the moon on my phone using the phone holder and Bluetooth button they provide. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to look at the moon and not handle a difficult telescope! And take photos of it! The photo of the moon attached is my own photo I took with the Bluetooth button and my phone. Order it and be surprised and have fun!!!

    Aperture matters more than magnification

I bought this knowing nothing about telescopes and not knowing what I could expect to see through this thing. Now I know more, I think this is a decent value, but it comes with A LOT of cons.In telescopes, the aperture size matters much more than magnification. The bigger the aperture, the better the image will be. This is a 70mm aperture (2.75 inches), which is about as small as you can get. It’s typical for an “entry-level” telescope, and a decent value for the money if you want to get into stargazing without dropping 500 bucks or more on a bigger scope. However, if I could do it over again, I would’ve spent more and gone with a better one.First, as with all beginner telescopes, it is actually much harder to use than a more intermediate level one. This is something well-known in the amateur astronomy group I’ve joined, and they never, EVER recommend buying a beginner telescope, ESPECIALLY for kids.Because most kids like looking AT stuff more than looking FOR it. And with this telescope, far more time is spent hunting for objects than actually looking at them.My kid doesn’t have the patience or attention span for that, but I rather enjoy the challenge, so I do it. Which brings me to the next problem. This is made for kids. As such, the stand is very short. Which means that all the time you spend hunting for things, you’ll having to be hunched over, crouched down, or kneeling on the ground. And if you live in a place with a lot of light pollution, you won’t be able to see much more than stars, the Moon, or the brightest planets. Even Mars is difficult to see through this telescope, and you can’t make out any detail whatsoever on the surface. You can make out SOME faint detail on Jupiter, especially if you go away from light pollution on a clear, moonless night. And you can just make out Saturn’s rings.Venus, on the other hand, is very easy to see. Especially now, near the end of April 2020, it is the brightest it’ll be all year, so we’ve been looking at it every night. It’s too bright, even at its dimmest, to make out any detail, but you can see what phase it’s in.Galaxies, most nebulas, and many star clusters are beyond the ability of this telescope, but that being said, I was able to see a planetary nebula called The Ghost of Jupiter last night. For perspective, I’ve had a few weeks of use and practice, and feel comfortable with the telescope, and have a number of apps, charts, and star maps to help me find things, and it STILL took over an hour for me to finally find it, put it close enough to the center of my field of view to use with max magnification, and put it in focus. And even then, it looked like a hazy, bluish star. We couldn’t make out any detail or the distinctive eye-shape that can be seen with even slightly larger scopes.Still, it was cool and the kid loved it. I consider it worth the effort, but my back is killing me today.Don’t get me wrong, for an entry-level telescope, this is good. It’ll serve our needs while we save up for an upgrade. But, like all entry-level telescopes, this is harder to use and not powerful enough to see much. All the time required to hunt for things, for what many may consider a disappointing result, could potentially end up killing a kid’s enthusiasm. If you absolutely MUST get an entry-level telescope, this is a good choice. But if at all possible, save up and get a larger aperture.

A very good entry level scope that will fit in nicely with my other telescopes

This is a review of the Gskyer 80 mm refractor telescope. I am not an employee of Gskyer, I am an astronomy hobbyist. I have 3 other telescopes and a spotting scope. My review is based on this background and is a fair and honest assessment of the package both for daytime use as a spotting scope and as a night time astronomical telescope. This is an entry level 80 mm short focal length refractor telescope/spotting scope package. It includes the optical tube assembly (the telescope), a mount/tripod, three eyepieces and a 3X barlow. Based upon my tests, it works well during the day as a spotting scope and at night as an astronomical telescope. The simple operation and stable mount make it an good first scope. The included eyepieces and barlow give it a good range of magnifications. Its compact size would make it a good “grab and go” or travel scope for someone who has larger telescopes. The Mount – This is a shining feature of this package. The tripod/mount of the Gskyer 80 mm is solid, stable, easy to direct and does a good job. Many entry level telescopes have flimsy and wobbly mounts/tripods making the telescope difficult to aim and resulting in a shaky image that is difficult to focus. The mount of the Gskyer 80 is an outstanding feature of this package. Note that it uses a dovetail attachment for the optical tube which means that the mount could be used with other optical tubes or other dovetail mounted accessories in the future. It also includes a standard 1/4 20 stud on top of the mounting rings which can be used to mount a camera or other accessories. The finder scope uses a standard dovetail mount so other finder scopes could be used. This is a level of flexibility you don’t typically see in a package at this price. The Optical Tube Assembly – This is what you might normally think of as the telescope. The OTA works well and presents a good image. In side by side comparisons it compared well with my Meade 80 mm scope. The focuser is easy to use and includes a 45 degree correct image diagonal that presents the correct image that you would want when using this as a spotting scope during the day. This also works well at night when you are comparing the sky to a chart as things are in their correct positions in the eyepiece. The scope uses the 1.25” standard that is most commonly used for telescope eyepieces, diagonals and filters so you can easily add accessories in the future. The included finder scope works well. The bracket is sturdy and provides ample adjustment so that you can align it with the optical tube assembly. Note that you will need to focus the finder when you first take it out of the package. This is done by turning the front black part. This is easy to do and will only need to be done once, but it is not mentioned on the assembly sheet. You will have to align the finder with the optical tube. This is a normal procedure required on any telescope and is best done during the day. Find a target as far away as possible, but at least 500 feet away. I like to use the cross arm of a telephone or power pole. Using the 25 mm eyepiece, center the cross arm in the eyepiece of the telescope, not the finder. Now use the two black screws on the finder to move the cross hairs till the target is centered in the cross hairs. You are now aligned. This is very important for use during the day and at night. You may have to make a minor adjustment from time to time but that is normal.Eyepieces – The included eyepieces present good images and are well matched to the scope. A nice touch is that they are threaded to accept standard astronomy filters which will help improve your view of the Moon, planets, nebula and other targets. The eyepieces, when combined with the included 3X barlow, provide 16X, 40X, 48X, 80X, 120X and 240X. For daytime spotting scope purposes, the 16X and 40X are good choices. If the air is very quiet the 80X works well too, but it is the atmosphere that will limit the magnification, not the scope. For night time use, typically an 80 mm scope will max out around 140X to 160X, but don’t hesitate to give 240X a try on the moon. Just remember that atmospheric transparency and turbulence will be the limiting factor rather than the scope. And, because the Gskyer 80 mm uses the popular 1.25” eyepiece size, you can add single focal length or zoom eyepieces, diagonals or filters of any brand. What can you see with this package?During the day I tested the scope by focusing on the leaves of a maple tree at about 150 feet, about half a football field. I was able to see the veins in the leaves without difficulty. I have not taken it to a shooting range but I would expect it would do well for target practice. At 800 feet I was easily able to resolve leaves on the top of a tree as well as a bird perched on a branch. Many spotting scopes use zoom eyepieces so I tested it with the included eyepieces as well as my 8-24 mm zoom eyepiece with good results. As an astronomy telescope it did well compared to my other 80 mm scope. The mount is easy to direct and the focuser made focusing easy. It worked well on Mars, Saturn and the rings, the Moon and star clusters. I expect it to work well on Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and its moons, stars, star clusters and double stars. I have enjoyed the Orion Nebula, the Pleiades and other deep sky objects with an 80mm telescope. To a large extent what you can see with any telescope will depend on your ground and sky light pollution levels. I live in a very light polluted suburb of NYC. Even under these challenging conditions, in addition to the Moon and the bright planets, there are hundreds of star clusters, asterisms and double stars within the capability of this telescope. At a darker site, the range of what you can see greatly expands. That would include galaxies and nebula that would be challenging from a light polluted location for any telescope. Don’t expect things to look like the pictures in magazines. Those are produced with long exposure astrophotography, often have false color added, and do not represent what you will see through the eyepiece of a telescope many times larger than this one.In summary, if you are looking for a compact, easy to carry, easy to use scope that can serve as a spotting scope during the day and an astronomical scope at night, the Gskyer 80 mm refractor should serve you well. And since it uses the standard 1.25” eyepiece and diagonal size it will let you add eyepieces, filters, diagonals and other accessories in the future. You can also take photos or videos through the eyepiece. You can hold the phone up to the eyepiece but there are attachments made for “digiscoping” with 1.25” eyepieces that make this a lot easier. Or add an eyepiece webcam to project the image on a screen or enter into the world of planetary imaging. If you are looking for a scope for a tween or teen that they can use on their own, this would work. A smaller child would need help setting this up but a 10 year old can likely handle it on their own.You should have a lot of fun with this scope.

Value is good, but quality could be better

The scope in general, the provided accessories, and the optics are OK for the price point. The views appeared clear, if you use the right eyepiece. The provided 25mm and 10mm eye pieces were OK.However, the 3x barlow lens is unusable… the lens seem to be plastic, with HUGE amounts of chromatic aberration, and renders everything a blurry mess.Besides that the finder scope had some plastic wedged in there in a corner, so you could spot it like a piece of string always there. (at least it was in a corner)Other than that, Jupiter and Saturn appeared relatively clear and bright for this aperture size. The biggest thing with beginner telescopes is finding objects. The finder scope is likely not practical to hunt for DSO, and the tripod mostly geared toward kid height gives you a backache after a while trying to look for objects. (even finding and staying of Saturn i wouldn’t say was a piece of cake.).But to be fair to the product, the fix was this several hundred more dollars of equipment, which is outside the scope of this scope. (pun intended!)

    Wunderbar

My first telescope ever. Took me a while to get everything set up (to be expected) and by day 2 I had it operating smoothly. Seeing Jupiter and Saturn is a sight to see! However, the focus knobs aren’t the smoothest nor as steady because there is extra movement that you have to adjust for when trying to focus on a specific distant object (the focuser moves up or down which then you have to readjust to the object you are trying to observe once focused). Additionally, the mount isn’t as stable as you’d want but other than that it still fulfilled my childhood dreams!

My 11 year old grandson was able to assemble it in 30 min

I bought this telescope as a birthday present for my grandson ( who turned 11) along with two books about stars and planets.I received a telescope in time, just before birthday. My grandson followed the instructions easily and was able to assemble the telescope in 30 min. He and his younger brother tested the telescope next evening and told me that it worked great! My son confirmed that the aperture and zoom features allowed for a spectacular view of the sky (they put it on the roof of their Highrise building), they also enjoyed viewing the Hunter Moon this October. I saw the reviews that reported the difficulties to connect the Gskyer to a smartphone. I can not comment on this as we have not yet connected the telescope to a smartphone. All in all, it was a great educational gift for my grandson!

    Absolutely amazing..!!

We bought this telescope as a gift to our son. After the set up was completed we were amazed with the clarity of this product. Our 7 year old son loved this product and now is able to adjust the focus and look up at the sky. This was the perfect gift for him as he had just started leaning about planets at his school and he spends good enough time looking at the sky through this telescope.I would highly recommend this product.

    Great start

I like that you can take pictures using your phone. I used it to look at the mountains as well as the stars. The smaller telescope attached to it has an inverted view. It’s annoying & basically useless. It takes some practice to get the hang of it. It’s pretty light to carry it from place to place.

    Makes a great gift

I bought this as a gift for my nephew and he loved it. He enjoys watching stars and moon from his room and this telescope is perfect height for kids. Assembly was time consuming as my package didn’t have instructions booklet but I was able to do it watching a YouTube video.

    Exceeded Expectations

My wife was looking for a small portable telescope. I purchased this for her as a surprise. I have to say this exceeded what I expected. She has used this to watch birds, wildlife and look at the moon. She has taken some great photos with it. A great beginner telescope at a great price.
