Watch video and coat hands with water right away after you pour step

When making the first part use cold water that’s very important. I also had a spray bottle so we could coat our hands right after we poured the step 1 molding into the bin before we put our hands in. If you put your wet hands in right away you have time to adjust your hands and wiggle them a bit to make sure they cover everything. Watch the video before hand, they helped me a lot. We plan to order more to do more molds. My husband was even impressed with the details in the hands. I also did it with my wedding and engage ring on. I had to use a tooth brush after to clean it well in the nooks and stuff but it didn’t hurt my rings!

    Absolutely love this stuff!

This is the second time I have worked with this stuff! A few years ago, my husband and I did our hands! He did all the work and they turned out great! Last week I did me and my moms hands together! I was nervous doing them myself, but I read through all the reviews and watched several videos! The main thing I noticed is that you have to make sure to use cold water! The next thing is to make sure to mix well! The last picture is before I did any detailing. As you can see, there were a lot of small “bumps” all over it that came off easy. There are some small holes from the bubbles on the one I did of my mom and I because I did not have it setting properly and we had to move it before it was fully set so that her hand was more comfortable. But it still turned out great! The one of my husband and I is all sealed and finished and the other one isn’t sealed yet! I’ve got one more set to do of my grandparents!

    Exceeded expectations!

This turned out way better than we expected! Easy to use if you follow the directions! We want to buy more and do different hand gestures now!

  5. Nikki

It worked really good and I was able to fit two hands inside holding hands easily.

This product is great for the price listed. It was easy to use just make sure your hands stay still while making it. And this is a great gift for anyone! I got it for my boyfriend for Christmas and we both absolutely loved using it!! And ours turned out rlly good and we ended up getting acrylic paint and painting it too.

    good for tiny hands

there’s no way you’re getting to adult hands in that mold!works good for one hand.

  7. Sana Karim

Good quality but hard to use

Good product but kinda hard to use. Specifically when you pull out the hand from bucket, it tends to break.

  8. River Ray

    Easy peasy. It works.

Note the sample casting calls for 4 teaspoons of water. This amount left the casting material cookie doughish. More water was needed to get to a good pouring slurry.

  9. Jojo

    Turn out nice 🙂

Easy to use and turn out nice 👌

Not advisable for children who can’t sit still for 10 minutes while hand is in mold.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with this product. Even for doing this for the first time, the instructions are easy to follow and the cast came out better than I anticipated. I wouldn’t advise it for children who can’t sit still, or can’t focus, for at least 10 minutes, while the mold sets up. I did this with my granddaughters who are 6 and 8 years old. They did a great job, however, the 6 year old mentioned how cold the solution was and was a bit antsy by the 10 minute mark, but managed to sit still for it to finish. I now know I will need to wait to do one with my grandsons. The 10 year old would have no trouble but the 4 year old would never be able to hold still that long. It truly is a great product and I would definitely do this again. Everything you need is included.

    Memories!

Purchased this for my son and his fiancee as a shower gift. Looks great!

    Awesome craft!

I wanted a cool way to display my son’s championship ring and homerun ball so we decided to give this a try! I love the way it turned out. The grip isn’t exactly perfect for the ball to look like it is being gripped but he loves it so that makes it a success!

Its the best thing ever I did the cast with my grandma and it was the best thing I have ever done hands down I totally recommend it💯❤

  14. Mad

    Messy but AWESOME

I was very nervous doing this because most of it is time sensitive. I should have prepared better. Some things that seem obvious but went completely over my head are: ensure you have a comfortable place to sit while you wait for the mold to harden, do NOT do crazy hand shapes as it will be difficult to pull your hands out, and be sure to have sheets on the ground so you don’t mess up the floor. I tried using an electric mixer and got powder EVERYWHERE. I ended up rushing to whisk it manually and that still worked. I must have lost a lot of powder in the ordeal because I didn’t end up having enough to cover my entire hand. I also found that I needed more water than suggested for the second part because it was very chunky and too thick to pour at first. With all that said, it still turned out really, really cool. I had some air bubbles near my ring, but that was due to my weird hand position. For my first time my hand came out looking incredibly cool. I’ll be buying this again!

    Incorrect measurements and old material

So I purchased this product super excited and ready to make a beautiful hand cast of my son’s hand. The impression took 10 minutes to set and the stone set instantly which the measurements for the water ratio was totally wrong. So I figured I will purchase it again and add more water to the stone. This time the impression material set in 3 mins which means it was old and the stone material came out perfect when adding extra water. Super disappointing both experiences.

    1st time buyer

Please read and follow directions thoroughly. We waited a few seconds too long when sticking in our hands to create the mold and it was almost impossible to get them down in there. The finished product wasn’t great. My hubby didn’t try the practice one 1st either, so there’s that. 🙄

  22. Adam

    Really happy with the results

The media could not be loaded.

Follow the instructions closely because it’s important for a great looking finished product.I didn’t use the paint that came with it. Instead I used a metallic black spray paint with many coats. I also added felt pads to the bottom to keep it from scratching furniture.

    Capturing a moment in time

Wanting to surprise my Husband with a unique gift, for our 7th wedding anniversary, I ordered this Hand Casting Kit, for couples, thinking it would be the most unique idea for a gift that he’d love. After reading the product description and looking at the pictures, I understood that it was a 100% complete kit for couples hand casting, start to finish. On the day of our anniversary, I presented him with this product, with high expectations. I was correct when I thought that he would love the idea and would be excited to make a casting of our left hands, together with our wedding rings on.In preparation, to do the casting, we opened the plastic surrounding bag of the kit. All items looked intact, all packed inside of the round, white, plastic container.Being this was the first time for us doing anything like this, we first looked for the instructions. The folded, card sized, paper with printed instructions are detailed with easy to understand and read wording with images provided for a step by step guide. There was a section on the instruction page labeled “INCLUDED” with images of each product that are each labeled in order of use.Laying each individual item out on my kitchen table, as I went down the included list, I noticed right away that one large silver bag, labeled STEP 1 MOLDING POWDER, was missing from my casting kit. However, it was the only item missing, thankfully.I really like that the kit even included small bags of “practice” sample sized molding & casting powders. The kit also came with many needed items like latex-free gloves, bronze paint, clear sealant, demolding knife, detailing tools, safety pin, sandpaper and alginate molding powder.I really like that they’ve provided an instructional video online to help us create the memories that last a lifetime with this hand casting kit. This will be if great help, especially for those of us that have never done this type of thing before.I did make contact about my missing item. Very quick to respond and resolve the problem. I received a 50% refund and reordered a 2nd kit in hopes that everything will be there.ALL-IN-ALL,Discovering DIY offering this Hand Casting Kit that includes the casting bucket, gloves, paints & tools for people to make a casting of their hands, in the comfort of their homes, is a unique gift that’s affordable for most! It seems to be somewhat easy to so which I am glad about.*I will update my review to include follow-up information & pictures when we get to do our casting.

An epic way to freeze a beautiful moment in time!

I saw this, and had to have it! I have young, twin daughters who are best friends, and growing fast. (TOO fast!) Their little hands are getting bigger by the day, and when I saw this, I NEEDED to have it, and preserve their darling, little hands for all of time, in a palm in palm embrace. In all honesty, it came out just perfect!!People here who haven’t gotten their desired result, try and slow things down, read and then re-read the instructions again.. more times if needed, before starting if you have to, and watch any videos for added help if need be, because this truly is a one shot deal. Trying to rush it, or not following directions to a tee, can spell disaster with this ‘should be lovely’, excitingly sentimental, project. It’s definitely a moment I will forever treasure, as my kids continue to grow and change over the years. I’d love another kit for me and my husband’s hands, but he has such beefy fingers and palms, I’m not sure there are enough materials here for that undertaking 😆. Maybe with two kits, perhaps 🤣. But in all seriousness, I’m definitely glad I was able to freeze that moment, and I will purchase another kit again, as it’s fun and super heartwarming to do and to have.I highly recommend this hand casting kit for yourself, or to give as a very thoughtful gift!5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I hope that my review has proven helpful :).

    A little small

If you have big hands or want to do a pose with your fingers expanded, the bucket won’t be tall enough. Other than that it worked as expected, we just couldn’t do the hands like we wanted too.

    Worked perfectly

Followed the directions and turned out exactly how it was supposed to. Love that it comes with a little practice set. The container could have been a little bit bigger, it was kind of hard to keep our hands from touching the sides. You can kind of tell we had to squeeze each other’s hands pretty hard to make them fit 😂

    Wow!!

I bought this a while ago and finally got around to using it today. I had my 2 and 5 year old use it because I thought it’d be sweet to have a mold of their hands when they’re still relatively small. My 2 year old kept moving around as the cast was setting up and I thought, this is gonna be a lost cause and I’m going to end up needing to throw it out. The younger one also got nervous as it starting firming up, so maybe not ideal for small children to use buy my 5 year old did really well with it.I used a whisk and the biggest mixing bowl I had; I was a bit worried they might be ruined but everything was able to be cleaned perfectly after use. The cast, purple stuff, was really lumpy but true to instructions, within three minutes it looked just right. It took a bit to start firming up in the bucket. It definitely turned blue before it firmed up but you can 100% tell once it’s firmed up. It’ll be like a mix between a Jello jiggler and PlayDoh and for us it took about 10-12 minutes. As you can see from my pictures, once their hands were out, it really just looked like 2 holes in the cast and again I thought, this isn’t going to turn out well (because of the kid moving around a lot as it set up).The plaster set ups quickly, as the instructions warn. I followed the instructions with everything and it worked great. Because I had two little kid hands in mine, there was quite a bit more plaster than I needed to fill the holes. I decided to pour most of it in anyways to create a sort of base to stand it up. This did make it harder to remove once it was set because there was plaster right up against the bucket, but I got it out gently, eventually. So since my youngest kept moving, I really wasn’t expecting much as I started removing the blue casting stuff, so I literally squealed and shouted OMG when I got my first glimpse of what was inside because it was AMAZING! My 5 year old’s details show up stronger because they were much more still but the 2 year old details are still amazing despite them moving so much. I’m just blown away by this. Because their hands weren’t completely together, it’s a little hard to remove the blue casting stuff from the tiny gaps between their hands but I am just beyond thrilled with this. I think I’ll be buying more to give as gifts.Follow the instructions and be impressed. Definitely worth getting.

I was sceptical but it turned out great

I was hesitant because of some of the other reviews but it arrived on time , and mine and my husbands turned out beautiful! We followed the instructions I think I might have added a little more water to the casting powder than it said but I’ve done so many other castings so I just made the consistency like the previous ones i had done . And walla beautiful mold. Beautiful cast. Ive ordered another one already. Can’t wait to do it . We’re going to do another hand placement different than the first. If I was you I’d get this one and just follow the instructions but go with your gut on the casting powder measurements, ( a small amount of extra water won’t hurt lol) . Either way it was fun to do so that was the important thing. Even if it didn’t turn out I just wanted to make memories and that’s what we did . 5 stars just for that .

    Lasting memory

I did this with my 92-yr old mom. It was easy, molded firmly in about 6 min and couldn’t be happier. I did have one air bubble but it was easy to fill in. My only complaint- the bronze paint was totally dried up and the clear sealer was not enough to cover.

Very easy to use. Just enough mix to do both of our hands. They gel is very temperamental with the temperature so if it’s cold it will take a longer to set up. definitely recommend if you wanna cast something for a budget.

    AMAZING

So many bad reviews made me hesitant about making the purchase but I’m glad I did. The casting came out perfect in my opinion. All it needs is a gentle sand in a few spots and removal of the mold stuck in a few spots. My baby girl and I absolutely love it. It captured us perfectly

    Ideal Gift for the Couple

I’m unsure as far as rhe use of the product as this was a birthday gift for both my mother and her live in boyfriend!! They’re both seniors and live states away from me, a 13 hour drive I’m unable to make in one day due to my permanent nerve, spine, & muscular issues & damages since my disabling accident. But soon as I hear as to the ease of doing it, having made something sentimental for each other, with each other, to have and remember, it’s the easiest greatest gift for the couple that has virtually everything already, needing small, most meaningful “reminders” in their elder years, just a small indicator of their time together spent with ea other.

    Handtastic!! Even with a child

I am reading the bad reviews..well for us worked great. We are very happy with the result, this will last us a lifetime. I was able to do this with a 6 year old girl, it was a lot of fun, like a science project. Yes you have to read all the instructions first and get everything ready prior you start, make sure you oil the hands to slip out easy, and it will work. The only thing I forgot to do was to tap on a sides to get the bubbles out for the first formula so it came out with little bubbles…but we smoothed them out with the sand paper and whoala! Done! You will be pleased, just be patient and follow al instructions. I have to recommend this product. Very happy!Good luck!!

    Great price!

My niece was super addicted to her pacifier! And so she wouldn’t let go of her pacifier when we did her hand mold! So when we made the casting the pacifier went in. When I poured the plaster the pacifier stayed. So when I pulled it out that’s what it look like. So I told her it was forever stuck there we can’t get it out anymore! So I let her help me paint her hand in a little shimmer so that way she could help and know that the pacifier is gone for good. She had loads of fun doing it

    Blew My Mind Wonderful!

This was fabulous. I was worried. I held hands with my 5 year old. We struggled to stay still but did our best. The results were BEAUTIFUL! The detail in her little hand were remarkable (wish I had put lotion on before doing mind since all my hand wrinkles showed, lol!). Just so very happy with the results.I will note this: the first one I bought was 29.99. I just reordered to do it with my son because I was so happy with the results: 12.99. I will tell you, both prices are so very worth it. It turned out so nice!!!

    Just ok

The bucket it comes with to use is not big enough for 2 peoples hands especially a mans hand. So it left alot of “pointy”(you can see in pics) parts on ours. The sandpaper leaves black marks on it too (You can see in pics too). Not very happy honestly.

  53. Raymond W.

Great, but you have to be fast.

Me and my wife molded our hands. It actually turned out pretty good, a few voids here and there but fixed it with the sample they give. You have to be very fast with filling the mold with casting material. It hardens pretty quickly. I tried doing small pours to get any bubbles out after mixing all of it. But it was solidifying within a minute or two that it was globbing out and not pouring. The molding material gets great detail for the casting. Knowing what I know now, I may get another to do something else. It’s a great casting kit.

  54. Stephanie T

    Cute idea

The end result was not what we wanted because bucket and amount of stuff supplied to make the hand was not sufficient. We could not get two adult hands inside the container, and it ended up using one adult hand which barely made it to the wrist. Because of the small size of the bucket neither of the hand forms we’re going to turn out properly. However, the materials given did work and instructions were as said, the most of hand project did look cute but not complete. Use for animals or smaller hands.

Worked with my 2 year old!

After seeing a video on Facebook with a child making a casting of his hand holding a rose for his mother I knew I had to have recreate it for mothers Days. I was worried it would work out because it would require my children (2 under 2) to stay still for 5 mins. My 1.5 year old refused which was expecting. My 2.5 year old was able to do it but moved a lot because the mixture was cold which was understandable. To my surprise it came out beautiful! There were some air bubbles but that probably could of been avoided if I tapped the bucket as the casting plaster was put it. I used cold purified water and had no problems. The casting plaster dries very fast so you need to mix and pour it FAST. I hope this is a useful review.

You Must Follow Directions I didn’t

I believe we pulled out of the solution to soon causing a suction that made my fingers real thin and a large portion of a hand did not take don’t think he was in the center of the pail he was more to the side of it AND I DIDNT FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS I FORGOT TO TAP AIR BUBBLES OUT Bought another and going to redo

Takes LONGER than it says, turned out perfect if you follow the directions EXACTLY

Followed the directions, used freezing cold water like you’re suppose to, everything went good besides it says it takes 3-10 min for it to mold around your hand, but it did NOT go that fast, we ended up staying in there for 25-30 min before it was ready to take out, waited 2 hours then peeled the molding off and it looks very good and detailed, the only NEGATIVE thing is that if you’re doing this with your mom or grandma they might not be able to keep their hand in the cold water for that long.

    My MOST Treasured Keepsake

I got this casting kit so I could mold my mom’s hand and have a piece of her with me always. So glad I did. Now that she has passed away I have something so special and treasured I could never be given any amount money for this. The process was easy to do. I definitely recommend practicing with the test kit so you can get a feel of how it feels when the mold sets and how to gage your time.I recommend not pouring all the rest of the casting into the bowl like I did as it makes the base very thick and hard to get out of the bucket.*Very Important* Make sure after you poured the casting into the mold you shack the bucket to get all bubbles out. Pick the Bucket up and down onto the table even to help get those bubbles out. (If you do get bubbles you can use the extra casting powder is says to set aside to fill in the holes the bubbles leave like I did but its far better if you can make sure to not have the bubbles.) I promise you this is an important step.I used my own sealing spray for good measure but the kit does include some sealant. Use it. The casting is very fragile with out it.
